Welcome to the Running Group!

Welcome to the website of the running group where you'll find information about the group, how to join and get involved and our weekly schedule of training.

The group started life from Glenwood Church.  The group is a running group for people from across the City but especially the Glenwood area that enjoy running.  Formed from this common interest we meet on a Monday night at Roath Park with a social session afterwards.  The number of participants at the Monday events has recently been increasing in size.

We enter many local races ranging from the Rose Inn Running series in the summer over 4 miles, 10k races in and around Cardiff, Half Marathons and also the London Marathon

Of course you do not need or are not required to enter any races and can just join us for fun running and for your personal fitness.

We now have a wide ranging age group of both sexes and we are all fun runners and beginners.  We are a friendly club and new runners to the group are always welcome. Why not visit us for a run next training session.

Have a look at our running gallery to see what we get up to!

  September Running

A busy September for the Glenwood Active runners saw the club become Welsh Athletics Board affiliated, and 20 runners take part in two events.

On 6th September, the Cardiff 10km & 2km races attracted 14 runners, including a large team raising money for FirstFruits, a supported housing project, based in Cardiff, for young pregnant vulnerable women and their babies.  The initiative was born out of a vision to see these young women having a place to call their home, and consequently have opportunities to make healthy and informed choices for themselves and their babies.

For more information about FirstFruits visit their website here, or to donate money visit their Justgiving page here.

Running the 2km race were Jan Hills, Jan Moreland, Mel Harrison, Leona Harrison, Kerrie Russell and Cerys Lockett.  Special mention must go to Leona, as the youngest member of the team at just a few months old who completed the 2km despite not having learnt to walk yet!

The FirstFruits 10km team of Rachel Cooper, Becky Martin, Sarah Badger, Tim Lockett and Nkini Pulei all completed the course, despite Becky being somewhat held up by the race patron, Catherine Jenkins (see photo).  At least that’s what Becky claims…

Also running in the 10km for their respective work teams were Dean Roberts, Stephen Casey and Richard Woods, who all put in very respectable performances, with their work teams coming in 3rd, 4th, and 6th respectively, out of a total of 73 community and corporate teams. Click here to see all the runners’ chip times for the 10km race.

September 20th saw six runners head ‘oop North’ for the Great North Run in Newcastle. Despite the huge number of runners to get in their way, the group consisting of Phil Bishop, Ruth Bishop, Paul Kirkwood, Mark Rogers, Abi Rogers and Abi Roberts put in some good times. Click here to see their times.
