Football at Glenwood

Glenwood has two groups for football enthusiasts - Glenwood Church Football Club and football played by the Mens Keep Fit club.

Glenwood CFC is a member of the United Churches league, which is affiliated to the West Wales F.A., and comprised of teams from all over South Wales from Ammanford to Rhondda.  Glenwood CFC play in the first divison of the UCL and matches are played on Saturday mornings  with our home games usually at Pontcanna playing fields. Matches are competitive with the standard of the league increasing every year but they are always enjoyable and there is a great team spirit between the players.

Easter Soccer School

Each Easter around 15 coaches and 120 children come together to form Soccer School. Soccer school is a five day football course based at Glenwood Church. It runs during the Easter holiday and attracts many Christian and Non-Christian children aged between 7 and 16. The two main aims of the week are firstly to help each child, whatever their ability, to improve their football skills. This will involve games, drills and working with each other. The second aim which is more important is to introduce the children to the basics of Christianity. This will be a fifteen minute slot at the end of each morning taken by the coaches and is a very relaxed and easy going time together. Soccer School is always a success. It is just as much fun for the coaches as it is for the children. Whatever the child's ability they will be guaranteed to have a great time on this week of football.

UCL Cup!

This season sees the UCL Cup return to a knockout competition. It has been decided, for ease of scheduling, to offer byes into the second round to 7 of the 25 particpating teams. These 7 are the four semi-finalists plus the top three finishing teams from last season's Division One. This will hopefully allow teams to have an easier draw in the first round and give the Cup-only entrants the possibility of progressing beyond the first round.

The 7 teams receiving byes into round 2 are: Glenwood, Rhondda Royals, Parklands, Emmanuel, Woodville, Bethesda, Lifepoint (NCC)

The first round draw has been made and is as follows:

  • Koinonia v Rhiwbina
  • Mount Pleasant v Dunvant
  • Swansea Elim v Gendros
  • Inter Aberdare v Llanelli
  • Real Rhondda v Penarth
  • City Temple Cardiff v Cornerstone
  • Pontypridd v Baglan
  • ABC Ammanford v Tab Life
  • Brackla v SUCU

All ties were played on 04 October 2008.
